Pierluigi Camicia
Pierluigi Camicia began his concert career in the wake of awards won in prestigious national (Treviso) and international competitions (Busoni, Ciani, Chopin), and with the admiration and esteem of artists such as Rostropovich, Ferrara, and Ciccolini.
His more than one thousand recitals in Europe (Germany, Poland, and Switzerland) and the United States (Salt Lake, Cleveland, Akron, Los Angeles, Fresno, New York, Dallas, etc.) have consistently garnered widespread critical and audience acclaim.
He devotes particular attention to repertoire, collaborating with renowned soloists and conductors (Ferro, Friedman, Haronovitch, Biscardi, Gusella, and Biscardi) and with European and American orchestras. Together with Michael Flaksman, Ruggiero Ricci, Angelo Persichilli, Felix Ayo, and Nina Beilina, his chamber music activity has provided an opportunity for multifaceted and fascinating musical experiences.
He collaborates with prestigious singers such as Ricciarelli, Devia, and Colaianni in lieder and opera recitals, and often with vocalists such as Antonella Ruggiero and Mariella Nava.
A professor at the Piccinni National Conservatory in Bari since 1973, called there by then-Director Nino Rota, Pierluigi Camicia has recorded music by Chopin, Giuliani, Rota, Grieg, Brahms, Franck, Faurè, Mussorgsky, Scriabin, Tchaikovsky, and Van Westerhout for Farelive, Abegg, and Bongiovanni.
He holds piano and chamber music masterclasses for universities in the US (BWYU – Provo, UTAH, CSUF – Fresno, CALIFORNIA, WESLEYAN COLLEGE – Macon, GEORGIA, etc.) and at universities in Germany, France, Croatia, Poland, and many Italian conservatories. He has often been invited to serve on the judging panel of prestigious international piano competitions in Italy, China, and Poland.
He has performed for major theaters, orchestras, and concert associations in Italy and abroad, including La Scala in Milan, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Ente Lirico Sinfonico in Cagliari, the Teatro Bellini in Catania, La Fenice in Venice, and regularly in Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, and Poland.
In 2007, he was appointed Director of the Tito Schipa Conservatory of Music in Lecce by the Minister for Universities, “due to his well-deserved reputation,” and was confirmed for the following three years.
He founded the Aldo Ciccolini Piano Academy in Trani, where he has served as Vice President and Principal Professor since 2016. He is the Artistic Director of the Camerata Musicale Salentina and, since 2022, Artistic Advisor of the OLES, the Lecce and Salento Symphony Orchestra.
